  • Top 5 Brazilian Peanut Importers in 2023

Brazil has been increasing its peanut exports to the world annually, especially in shelled peanuts and peanut oil, as indicated by the consolidated data of 2023.

In the same year, shelled peanut exports continued to grow, showing an increase of 4.28% in volumes and 33.40% in values compared to 2022, totaling 297 thousand tons exported, valued at $443 million.

This growth was driven by a 3% increase in global imports of the product.

The main destinations for brazilian peanuts represented 61% of exports in 2023.

Russia, historically the main destination since 2016, received 28.31% of exports, followed by Algeria with 23.59% and the Netherlands in third place with 9.56%.

Although Russia maintained its position, there was an 11.20% decrease in exports to this country in 2023 compared to 2022, totaling 87 thousand tons.

However, values increased by 15.23% due to price increases.

On the other hand, exports to Algeria increased by 71.70% in 2023, totaling just over 67 thousand tons and $105 million, an increase of 141.77% compared to 2022.

The Netherlands also saw increases, with volumes and values increasing by around 15.36% and 35.15%, respectively, totaling around 27 thousand tons and $42 million.

In fourth place is South Africa with 5.72% of the total imported, almost  the double from the previously year, followed by Poland in fifth place with 3.96%.

Finally, despite the decrease in peanut oil exports between 2022 and 2023, the total value of brazilian peanuts exports rincreased by 2.39%, reaching $642 million in 2023.

However, there was a 9.92% reduction in exported volumes compared to 2022.

This increase in values was driven by high prices, especially for shelled peanuts, highlighting a moment of expansion and favorable development for the peanut industry in Brazil and its contribution to the Brazilian agribusiness.
